Acts 2:17-18
17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
In the new covenant, the Holy Spirit is for everyone – all flesh. Therefore, everyone can prophesy, have dreams, etc. However, prophesying doesn’t mean you are a prophet, as in one ordained to the office of the prophet.
Job 4:13 In disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falls on men,
Job 33:15-16
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds,
16 Then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction.
This does not mean that every dream is from God. Stay away from trying to interpret meaning into every dream.
(Pastor Larry Huggins) “Every time I’ve had a spiritual dream that I know is a spiritual dream, I’ve never forgot it. I didn’t have to memorize it. I didn’t have to recall it. It was just there burned into my memory.
Example: Pastor Larry had a dream in which his friend T.L Osborn appeared and said “Ideas from God are the seeds from which miracles grow.” Pastor didn’t have to memorize that dream and didn’t have to interpret it because it was literal. “I’ve never had a dream I had to interpret. If you don’t know the meaning of your dream, forget about it. If it were important, God would give you the meaning of it.”
In the new covenant, we’re not limited to being lead by dreams. We have the Holy Spirit and can be lead by the still small voice, a word of wisdom, etc.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Be careful about following other people’s dreams or visions.
When you go to sleep at night, plead the blood of Jesus over yourself. Pray that God protect and guard you while you sleep, and that if God comes into your dream life you will know it is of God, or that you will know when it is not.
Memorize the prayer in Ephesians chapter 1, especially verses 17 and 18.
Ephesians 1:17-18
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Try the spirits (including dreams and visions), whether they are from God. If it doesn’t line up with the word (Bible), it’s not from God.
