Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit (Himself) maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Helpeth means to lay ahold along with another, to cooperate, to strive to help, to obtain with others, to help in obtaining.
The Holy Spirit helps us (aids) with our infirmities while we pray in the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit does not take away the task someone is doing, and then start doing it himself, but He aids in our endeavors. He dwells in us. He is our helper – Paracleet (Greek) Same word in Luke 10:40
Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Romans 8:27 – The mind of the Spirit means the purpose of God. He reconciles your heart’s desires to the will of God.
Jesus shed His blood for the Holy Spirit to be our helper. When you cast your cares and worries on God, you still have to work out your own soul’s salvation and fight the good fight of faith. The Holy Spirit aids you in fighting that fight.
There is one will of God – that you win; that you’re more than a conqueror.
Romans 12:2b… be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
If we yield to the will of God, then we have a renewing of our minds, resulting in us putting to test what the will of God is, and that the will of God is good, well pleasing and complete, having found that the will of God meets all of the specifications of our heart’s desire.
Infirmity (Rom. 8:26) a deficiency in our ability to reconcile everything in our lives to the will of God. It covers all of our spiritual, physical, emotional, financial, and social needs. It covers how to know what to pray for, and how to pray when we don’t know the specifics.
The Holy Spirit is the only one who knows what is necessary for each crises we are dealing with and how to obtain and attain the desired goal.
The Holy Spirit is indwelling us, knowing what we want better than we know what we want, and He takes us to a higher and holier desire so we can express in words that can only find an utterance in sighings and groanings. God accepts these as an acceptable prayer by the Holy Spirit. He understands everything we’re trying to convey.
Romans 8:28 And we know (absolute knowledge by God, because of Christ and His blood, through the agency of the Holy Spirit) that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
