thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
Genesis 11:3
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:5
Babel vs. Bethel – Bricks vs. Stones
The Tower of Babel was made with bricks, each cast from the same mold, the same shape, and the same size. If one is flawed, it’s rejected and replaced by another brick. That’s how religion works.
God’s House, Bethel, is built with living stones, each one unique, crafted for a special purpose. We aren’t meant to be bricks—we’re stones. God has a special place for each of us.
I Know Bricks and Stones
When I was young, I worked as a bricklayer’s assistant, handling thousands of bricks—brick after brick. It was boring! If a brick was broken or flawed, I tossed it into a pile of rejected bricks and handed the bricklayer another. It didn’t matter which one; they were all the same.
Later, I worked as a stone mason. That was fun! I’d buy native stones from ranchers by the ton, hand-load them onto a truck, and drop them off at the job site. I handled each stone three times: once when I gathered them, once when I sorted them, and once when I set them in place.
I got to know each of my stones. No two were the same, and fitting them together was like solving a puzzle. When I placed the right stone in the right place, they all locked together and became strong and beautiful.
Not Made With Hands
It’s true, ZChurch doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar building, but we do have a building—not made by human hands. Remember, “…God dwelleth not in temples made with hands.” – Acts 17:24
