The devil has three techniques, three major weapons he uses against the church: 1. Deception 2. Temptation 3. Accusation.

Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Discerning of spirits – insight into the true nature of spiritual entities, celestial and terrestrial.

1 Corinthians 12:10 …to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits;…

Eight different categories of discerning of spirits:

1. Discerning of angels – Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Acts 27:23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve.

2. Discerning of devils – Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 1 Corinthians 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air.

3. The ability to discern good people and false prophets – John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

1 Corinthians 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

Hindrances to Discernment

• Stop trusting in yourself, your own flesh, your own intelligence.
• Pray in the Spirit more.
• Don’t think through your senses.
• Heed your prophets.
• Don’t stray from the fold.
