Death is Swallowed up in Victory

May 23, 2024A few months ago, I was about to lead worship at my church’s Miracle Hour, a quarterly service where we all pray in agreement for friends and family. Minutes before the first song, I saw three close friends’ faces in my mind, so I texted all three and wrote, “Yo. You need prayer? I’m serving in a miracle service right now. Let me know specifically what you need prayer for. I’ve seen prayers offered at this service answered.”
One of the guys recently went through a significant leadership restructuring at work and had a painful fallout with his friend/business partner. He said, “Can you please pray that I can find peace in my career and relationships?” I prayed out loud for him during my church’s Miracle Hour, asking The Heavenly Father that he may know the peace that surpasses all understanding in his career and relationships.
FIVE days later, he called me and said, “Bro, I just landed a job that will pay me $60K more than I’m making now and reimburse $20K a year for higher education. I’ll be able to get my Master’s in Nursing (MSN), so I can teach later on.” I said, “Glory to God! Sounds like your prayer was answered.” He said, “Absolutely! Please thank your prayer group for me.”
A couple of weeks later, my friend texted me to pray for his search for a place to live closer to his new job. I texted him back with a prayer and scripture and told him to pray in agreement with me,
“Lord, we come boldly to Your Throne today with a heart of thanksgiving to make our request for (friend’s name) to find not just a place to live but the perfect place to live, affordable, safe, and central to all his travel needs. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!”
”Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.“ Matthew 18:19 NKJV
THREE weeks after that text exchange, I hung out with my friend at a local restaurant. I asked, “How’s the rental search?” He said, “Nothing yet, Bro. It’s stressful because I start next week, and my girlfriend and I have been looking everywhere, but the market is crazy. Also, I’ve started reflecting on all the bad decisions I’ve made in the past, so it’s been a rough last few weeks.”
I gently asked, “So I’m hearing you’re feeling beat down and weak, right?” Looking dejected, he nodded yes. I said, “This is good because The Good Lord wants you to know that His Grace is sufficient for you and His power is perfected in weakness.” I pulled out my phone and asked my friend to read 2 Corinthians 12:9 out loud:
“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
THE MOMENT he finished reading the scripture out loud; he got a text on his phone. He looked at the text and said, “(An expletive!) Bro, you’re not going to believe this. My lady just texted me that our offer was accepted at a nice place two miles from my new job!” He looked at me, and I just calmly smiled and pointed to the sky. He called his girlfriend and said that he was hanging out with me. She said, “You need to hang out with him more often!”
I told him, “That’s not me, Bro. That’s all Jesus. He gets the glory because…“He must increase, but I must decrease.”” John 3:30 NKJV
