Every generation is given a window of time in which to serve the purpose of God. David fulfilled that purpose in his generation. Now, as we look at the changes taking place around us, we must ask: What is God’s purpose for our generation, and how can we help fulfill it?

A Generation Entering a New Season

The Baby Boomer generation includes those born between 1946 and 1964. Because of its extraordinary size, this generation has profoundly influenced American culture, the economy, and society throughout every stage of life.

In 2026, the oldest Baby Boomers—those born in 1946—began celebrating their 80th birthdays. This marks an important turning point as the generation moves into a new season of life.

Another significant milestone will arrive on January 1, 2030. By that date, every living Baby Boomer will be at least 65 years old, and older adults are expected to represent approximately one out of every five Americans.

These are more than interesting statistics. They point to a major transition that will affect families, churches, communities, and our nation for decades to come.

The Great Wealth Transfer

This transition will also have a tremendous financial impact. Over the next two decades, Baby Boomers are projected to pass tens of trillions of dollars in assets to Generation X and Millennials.

This historic shift is now being called “The Great Wealth Transfer,” and it is expected to be the largest transfer of generational wealth in human history.

When I look at all of this, I can’t help but think about what it could mean for the Kingdom of God.

The salvation of Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials is so important—not only for their own lives, but also because of the tremendous part they can play in reaching the generations coming behind them.

Resources With an Eternal Purpose

These generations need to understand that the resources God has placed in their hands can be used for something eternal.

Through their tithes, offerings, and generous giving, they can help churches and ministries reach their children, grandchildren, and generations yet to come with the Gospel.

If the Lord should tarry, this great transfer of wealth could become much more than an economic event. Just imagine what could happen if even a portion of this wealth were dedicated to the Lord!

It could advance the Kingdom in an unprecedented way by supporting:

• Evangelism and missions
• Discipleship and Christian education
• Churches and ministry outreaches
• Christian media and technology
• Humanitarian work
• Efforts to reach children and young people
• Ministries that are bringing people to faith in Christ

This wealth does not have to be consumed by the world or used only for temporary purposes. In the hands of believers who understand biblical stewardship, it can become a powerful tool for spreading the Gospel and changing lives for eternity.

A Call to Prayer and Action

I believe this gives us an urgent reason to pray.

We need to pray for Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials to be reached with the Gospel. We also need to help believers within these generations understand biblical stewardship and recognize the eternal purpose God has for the resources He has entrusted to them.

This is not only about leaving an inheritance to our children. It is about leaving a spiritual legacy that can help bring our children, grandchildren, and generations yet to come into the Kingdom of God.

What the world is calling “The Great Wealth Transfer” could become one of the greatest opportunities we have ever seen to advance God’s Kingdom.

Like David, may we serve the purpose of God in our own generation—and may what we place in His hands continue serving His purposes long after we are gone.
