Justified by the Blood
June 27, 2026The Continual Ministry of the Blood of Christ
Throughout this series, we have examined both the biological ministry of physical blood and the spiritual significance of Christ’s Blood. Now we arrive at the practical question: What is the Blood of Christ doing in the life of the believer?
The Blood Removes What Destroys Life
Hebrews teaches that the Blood of Christ purges the conscience from dead works.
Throughout Scripture, we see the effects of Christ’s Blood extending far beyond mere ritual cleansing. The Blood of Christ removes:
• Sin
• Guilt
• Condemnation
• Dead works
• A defiled conscience
Many believers understand forgiveness yet continue to live beneath guilt and condemnation. The Blood of Christ addresses both. God not only forgives the sinner, but also He cleanses the conscience.
The Blood Imparts Life
The ministry of Christ’s Blood not only takes care of the negativity in a life. The Blood of Christ imparts life, touching every dimension of human existence. It ministers:
• Spiritual life
• Mental renewal
• Emotional restoration
• Relational healing
• Practical grace for daily living
Just as physical blood serves the entire body, the Blood of Christ ministers to a person’s entire life: no dimension of life falls outside its reach. The late gospel songwriter Andraé Crouch penned these words:
It soothes my doubts and calms my fears
And it dries all my tears
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power
It reaches to the highest mountain
It flows to the lowest valley
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power
To enjoy the benefits of the life-giving Blood of Christ, we must partake of His life.
The Celebration of His Life
Jesus made a remarkable statement in John 6:53: “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.” And the Apostle Paul repeated the words of Christ in First Corinthians 11:23-25: “…on the night [Christ] was betrayed [He] took bread…gave thanks…brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you…. After the same manner took the cup…saying, This cup is the New Testament in my blood: this do…in remembrance of me.”
We, as believers, celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Christ in the act of communion. For believers, it is much more than a memorial ceremony. When we partake of communion, we acknowledge Christ as the source of our lives. We acknowledge the continual ministry of His Blood. We declare our absolute dependence upon Him for life. We confess that every dimension of life is sustained through His finished work.
The Silent Testimony Continues
Every red blood cell in the human body bears witness to the spiritual reality. Day and night, blood silently carries life throughout the body. Without its continual ministry, physical life ceases. How much more does the Blood of Jesus Christ continually minister life to those who believe? The Blood of Christ carries divine life to every dimension of our existence. It removes what would destroy us. It sustains us in a covenant relationship with the living God. And every beat of the human heart reminds us of the truth God declared long ago: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.”
