Fearless Future

May 3, 2025On Sunday, while it was raining, I was on the freeway with my sons, and when my gas gauge turned yellow, I pictured the exact gas station I would stop at, which had a McDonald’s right next to it. As I pulled up to the gas pump, I noticed there was an older black woman dressed in royal blue hospital scrubs on the opposite side of the pump. When I tried to use my card to get gas, the pump monitor kept saying that I needed to pay inside, which really irritated me. After a few more fruitless attempts to get my card to work, I said to my kids, “Let’s just go to McDonald’s, then we’ll get gas at the station across the street.”
As I was closing the gas cap and putting back the hose (in not the best mood), the woman on the other side of the pump asked, “Excuse me, could you please help me?” I took a long, deep breath and said, “Sure, what did you need help with?”
She said, “It’s raining, and I think my windshield wiper is broken.”
I looked at her driver-side wiper and said, “There is a plastic piece that is missing that holds the wiper to this arm. We could use the plastic piece from the other wiper to reattach this, but you would lose the wiper on the passenger side, which is ok because the passenger doesn’t need to see in the rain; the driver does. Do you want me to move the plastic piece?”
She said, “Oh yes, please! Thank you!”
As I was fixing her wiper, I felt the Spirit move and said, “You didn’t know you’d be helped by a worship leader this morning, did you?”
She exclaimed, “A worship leader?”
I immediately started singing a classic song I had sung in church the day before called “Oh Happy Day” by Edwin Hawkins, and she started jumping up and down and singing the song with me.
After singing the chorus, the woman said, “Glory to God! This is unbelievable. When my wiper broke on the freeway, I was so scared because I couldn’t see that well with the rain. I held my Psalms 23 necklace and started praying, and the Holy Spirit told me to go to this gas station, and He sent a worship leader to help me! Hallelujah!”
With an ear-to-ear smile, I said, “Look at God! He had me roll up to the exact pump you were at. Won’t He do it?” After we briefly talked more about The Lord, we went our separate ways, and she said, “God bless you and your ministry!”
As I drove home, I reflected on these Old and New Testament verses of the day:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalms 23:4 NKJV
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”
John 15:26 NKJV
