Father’s House by JP Quianzon

Over 10 years ago, I pulled up to a gas station located on Industrial Avenue in Hayward. As I was filling my car with gas, a young African-American woman dressed in a flowing white African Bubu and white African headdress approached me with a box in her hands. She asked, “Would you like to buy a CD?” Being an avid supporter of live music and a firm believer that good music will eventually find a way to my ears, I said, “Sure, how much?”

She said, “$10.”

I reached into my pocket and only had a $20 bill. So I said, “I will take two.”

She started to cry and joyfully said, “Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!”

She went on her way, and I finished filling my car up. I immediately put the CD into my car and began listening to the music. It was an acoustic CD with a singer singing over a guitar. The production and presentation of the CD were of a lower quality, but I kept coming back to one song because of the chorus: “In my Father’s House, there are many mansions.” I had never heard that phrase before, but it kept resonating with me for some reason. At that time, I did not know God’s Word as I do now. Reflecting on the way that music reached my ears, I realize The Good Lord was beckoning me back then because He said:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John‬ ‭14:1-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
